Webinar on Studying from in the pandemic
Resource Person : Dr. Nikita Dodwad
Professor, Sancheti college of Physiotherapy Pune
Date : 19th June 2021
Basic guidelines for your home office :
- • Try to make your sitting position as ergonomic as possible (see picture). Use cushions, books, boxes etc. to adjust your chair and monitor height if needed.
- • Take breaks every 30-45 min (maximum 60 min). Stand up, move, stretch, go grab a glass of water (Tip: leave your jug of water in another room, so that you have to get up to refill your glass).
- • Use an alarm or an app to remind yourself to move, if you are afraid that you’ll forget yourself.
- • If possible, organise to have a comfortable office chair in your home.
- • Don’t worry if you slouch and aren’t sitting properly all the time; you don’t need to. As long as you don’t stay in the same position for hours, you will be fine. Change positions often and move around.
- • Favour natural light, if possible. This eases the strain on your eyes.
Ergonomic position:
- • Your feet should be flat on the floor. If needed, put something under your feet, so that they are supported (if your feet are up in the air, it can create tension in you lower back).
- • Your hips and knees should be at about a 90 degrees angle.
- • Keep your lower back supported (use cushions if needed).
- • Rest your arms and elbows on an armrest and keep your elbows at around 90 degrees. Your wrists shouldn’t be higher than your elbows.
- • Keep your shoulders relaxed.
- • The upper edge of the screen should be on the same line as your eyes.
Stretches – what to remember:
- • Stretching should never hurt. Pleasant discomfort is enough for it to work.
- • Neck and head stretches – no need to pull hard. Just rest your hand on your head during stretching, that weight is enough.
- • General rule: 15-30 seconds per stretch is enough.
- • Repetition: 1-2 times per day, each movement 1-2 times.
Self-massage at home:
- • If you have headaches, discomfort and/or tightness somewhere, then the easiest way to help yourself is to massage the area with tennis ball or massage ball. In the picture below you can find some more common areas where you can use the ball. Gently start rolling around that area and if you find a painful spot, stay there until the pain starts to ease (if you feel pain radiating away from the point, it’s ok). Don’t roll on top of the spine! To counter tightness a hot-pack is another good way to relax the muscles. Put it on top of the tight area and keep it there for 15-20 min.

About the Event:
Intel’s oneAPI is an open, accessible and standards-based programming system that enables developer engagement and innovation across multiple hardware architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, AI accelerators, and more. These tools all have very different properties and are thus used for various operations–which oneAPI attempts to simplify by unifying them under one model.
A persisting problem faced by developers even today is the volume of programming environments our increasingly digital world offers. Disparate programming environments disable time-saving strategies such as code reusing and turn into real hurdles for software developers. Intel unveiled oneAPI at its Supercomputing event in 2019 as a part of its software-first strategy. The model signalled Intel’s ambitions to have a unified programming framework as a solution to limiting proprietary programming platforms.
one APi enables developers to work without the exhaustion of juggling with different languages, tools, libraries and different hardware. Here are a few top features of oneAPI:
Data Parallel C++
To make oneAPI possible, Intel developed the data-parallel language DPC++ (or Data Parallel C++). This language, which is open-sourced, incorporates C++ and the Khronos Group’s SYCL to support data parallelism and heterogeneous programming. The language is reportedly similar to how standard C++ works, with added extensions to it, making it easy for developers to transition to DPC++.

About the Event:
Internet of Things is a network of physical objects —or “things”. It connects and exchanges data with other devices and systems over the Internet. Essentially, it is a system of interrelated, internet-connected objects that can collect and transfer data over a wireless network without human intervention and allows us easy control over our devices, appliances, and equipment.
IoT (as “Internet of Things” is shortened) has made it possible for devices to relay information to one another. It takes multiple devices and connects them to a cellular network connection. Such connected devices (like security cameras, GPS tracking, retail POS machines, etc.) are considered a part of an IoT network as they communicate back and forth with a central hub. SIM cards and radio technology in devices enable this connection and communication, opening up endless possibilities for technological solutions. The history of the Internet of Things allows us to see just some of these infinite possibilities come to fruition. And, as all history does, it also enables us to hypothesize where it will take us in the future.
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.
The ideal characteristic of artificial intelligence is its ability to rationalize and take actions that have the best chance of achieving a specific goal. A subset of artificial intelligence is machine learning which refers to the concept that computer programs can automatically learn from and adapt to new data without being assisted by humans. Deep learning techniques enable this automatic learning through the absorption of huge amounts of unstructured data such as text, images, or video.
