BE – Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace Engineering Department was established in year of 2017 with an intake of 60, affiliated under VTU with AICTE recognition to meet the intensifying needs for Aerospace Industries. Aerospace Engineering is the primary field of engineering concerned with the design development and launching of satellite launch vehicle, defense missiles and satellites for different applications. Aerospace Engineering curriculum consist of mainly fundamental aerodynamics, structures and propulsion subjects of aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering in lower semesters and in higher semesters specialized topics like satellite launch vehicles design and analysis, Missile Design, Spacecraft design and analysis, Space dynamics, Intra planetary travels and Space environment. India is one of the leading countries in the aerospace field. To support the current and future challenges in the field of aerospace, ACSCE formulates quality engineers specialized in aerospace technology.

PEO-1 PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGEAerospace Graduates will have the ability to apply knowledge across the disciplines and in emerging areas of Aerospace Engineering for higher studies, research, employability and product development.

PROGRAM OUTCOME (POs)

PO1 – Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics and science, with fundamentals of Aeronautical Engineering to be able to solve complex engineering problems related to Aeronautical Engineering

PO2 – Problem Analysis: Identify, Formulate, review research literature and analyse complex engineering problems related to Aeronautical Engineering and reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PO3 – Design/Development of solutions: Design solutions for complex aircraft problems related to Aeronautical Engineering and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety and the cultural societal and environmental considerations

PO4 – Conduct Investigations of Complex problems: Use research–based knowledge and research methods including design of aircraft structure experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5 – Modern Tool Usage: Create, Select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to Aeronautical Engineering related complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6 – The Engineer and Society: Apply Reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the Aeronautical professional engineering practice.

PO7 – Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the Aeronautical professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development

PO8 – Ethics: Apply Ethical Principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9 – Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multidisciplinary Settings.

PO10 – Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with High society and with write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.

Department Profile

Karnataka State is the hub of various Aerospace industries. With the intensions to fulfil the increasing demands of skilled manpower in these industries and hence to serve the society, the Department of Aerospace Engineering was established in year 2017 with under Graduate Course in Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering under VTU, Belgaum. The course is approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

Aerospace Engineering curriculum consist of fundamental subjects like aerodynamics, structures and propulsion in lower semesters and in higher semesters specialized topics like Launch Vehicles design and analysis, Missile Design, Spacecraft design and analysis, Space dynamics, Intra planetary travels and Space environment. On successful completion of the course the student may get opportunities to join various Aerospace industries like ISRO, DRDO, GTRE, HAL, NAL, Boeing, Airbus, Honeywell, TCS, Goodrich, Mahindra Aerospace, Accord Systems, Data Patterns, Servo controls, Dassault – Reliance Aerospace, Safran Engineering Services, Aequs etc.

Dept. of Computer Science Engineering

The Ph.D programme in Computer Science and Engineering imparts the knowledge, skills and attitude to do world class research in the area of computer science. The thrust area of Computer science researches are robotics, vision, natural language processing, databases, formal methods, real-time systems, computer architecture, machine learning, programming languages, graphics, network security, software engineering, bioinformatics. In this research program, students are expected to demonstrate excellence in both defining and executing a substantial research project that forms a novel contribution to the state of the art in computing. With a highly individualized program of study, the degree provides students with depth in their chosen research area coupled with a rigorous breadth of knowledge across the discipline. M.Tech – Digital Electronics and Communication Systems

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is offering M.Tech in Digital Electronics & Communication Systems (from 2014 on wards). The course is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. It is course providing in-depth knowledge to students of Electronics and communication background in various subject of current interest like Advanced Digital Communication, Modern DSP, Advanced Embedded System, Antenna Theory and Design, Digital Electronics, Error control and coding, Advanced Computer Architecture, along with a course on Linear Algebra and elective courses like CMOS VLSI Design, Wireless & Mobile Network, Advances in VSLI design, Real Time Operating System which the student have option to select various other subjects of their interest.

This DE&CS course also includes a mathematical subject of Linear Algebra which deals with the theory of linear equations, matrices, vector spaces, determinants, and linear transformations. In Linear Algebra and its Applications gives the new information or new insights to matrix theory and finite dimensional linear spaces.

Apart from the core courses the elective subjects like the ones listed above can be chosen as per the specialization desired.

M.Tech – Software Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is offering M.Tech in Software Engineering (from 2014 on wards) with an intake of 18.The course is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of today’s busy IT professionals and managers without disrupting their work and career. The curriculum emphasises understanding and exploitation of advanced technologies and management disciplines. It focuses on the practical application of innovative techniques and developing the IT professional’s capability for innovation. This course also helps to train the graduates in process methodologies and techniques for software development and provide in depth knowledge on the application of software engineering CASE tools and their relevance to industry practices. This course supports to pursue research in software modeling and design for solving complex problems.

M.Tech – Product Design and Manufacturing

The Department of Mechanical is offering M.Tech in Product Design and Manufacturing (PDM) (from 2010 onwards) with an intake of 18.The course is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. The primary objective of the programme is to train the students in Designing and developing products by imparting broad based training on the state of the art engineering design methods analysis tools and manufacturing processes. With this training we expect the students to become powerful practitioners of product designers. The knowledge gained by the students in this course is an effective and practical, immediately applicable to today’s design challenges in the industry.

M.Tech – Structural Engineering

Department of civil Engineering is offering M.Tech in structural Engineering (from 2013 on wards) with an intake of 18.The course is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. Opportunities for civil engineers exist in the public as well as private sectors in large numbers in all branches of design, construction and maintenance, infrastructure development in both India and abroad. Right now constructions industry is booming as there is growth in infrastructure requirement throughout the country. This stream deals with the following major areas: advanced structural mechanics, finite element analysis, structural dynamics, structural stability, structural reliability, structural optimization, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, steel structures, design for wind and earthquake, plates and shells, bridges, tall buildings, towers, computer applications in structural engineering, masonry structures, composite structures. This programme empowers future engineers with a range of methods to analyse and design structures with quantifiable reliability over their design life.

Department of Physics

The Department of Basic Sciences was established in the year 2000 and it consists of Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Chemistry and Dept. of Mathematics. The department of physics has a well-equipped laboratory and a VTU recognized R&D Centre. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members; one of them being a Ph.D scholar and another one is pursuing his Ph.D. The department also has a VTU approved Research Centre. Research is being carried out in the area of Nanotechnology. The staff meticulously involve in the welfare of students to make sure their holistic development. One of the theories we believe in and strive to imbibe in the students, is “understanding of an atomis very essential to understand the universe”.

Department of Chemistry

The Department of Basic Sciences was established in the year 2000 and it consists of Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Chemistry and Dept. of Mathematics. Chemistry department handles Applied Chemistry (Theory and Practical) which is common among First year Engineering students across all branches. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members; one of them being a Ph.D scholar and another one is pursuing his Ph.D. and an extremely efficient lab technician. The faculty members of Chemistry department have presented many research papers both in national and international journals and have been an active part of various conferences. Humorously, we use to say that our department is not just about chemical bonds but also about our bonding with the students. It is to notify the importance we give for interactive learning.

The Department of Basic Sciences was established in the year 2000 and it consists of Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Chemistry and Dept. of Mathematics. We believe that mathematics is not just a study about numbers but about the life itself. Mathematics lies everywhere in our daily life, smoothening and improving our lifestyle. Our department believes in strong student- teacher bonding. Our experienced and highly qualified faculty members are well known for participating in various national level conferences /workshops / seminars. They are keen to work on the developments in graph theory and finite element method research. We believe if the universe can be read with only one language, the language has to be mathematics, and the geometrical figures are its alphabets- this can also be called as our motto.
